    1204's Detroit $450

A new set of cabs tuned to the 418's would work wonders for these, next upgrade the 807's to 806.

the Simbiotik frams can be sold on eBay

Pair of newly reconed Altec 1204b concert enclosures.

The real trick is buy a blown up set, recone the 418 as 416, 807 as 806.

i actually like the 418, not for hi-fi mind you but as a guitar speaker they scream. and they are not reconeable as 418's..meaning there are no more 418 recone kits

    Re: 1204's Detroit $450

It's probably the ultimate pedal steel guitar speaker.

The 418 can be improved for Hi-Fi....I have put on a 4 inch felt dome to cover the aluminum. It accomplishes 2 things...mostly, it deadens the overtones from the dome, but also lowers the Fs with the small added mass. They sound pretty darn good in a properly tuned box.

A little light in the lows compared to a 416, but very usable, and perhaps as good or better in the high mid. Add subs and a system nobody would be ashamed of.

There are tons of these MI boxes. I have seen blown up sets go as low as $100.
With Altec prices climbing, people on a budget can still get into Altecs this way...
